Shelter

out in the streets and all alone
nowhere to go, I have no home
tired, beaten, battered and bruised
why did this happen, I'm so confused

just when I thought all hope was gone
I found a shelter, I found a home
full of others just like me
in need of love and understanding

they took us in and filled out needs
heard our cries and all of our pleas
they made us feel unashamed
for all the hurt and all the pain

they showed us that it wasn't all our fault
our hearts would heal, believe it or not
the love we gave will soon return
from somewhere else, for now it was our turn

so here's to the ladies who give their all
always there to answer our calls
whether morning, noon, or night
like a beacon shining bright

to the women of the ACT
women's shelter
