She Was Young Once

She was once young

A photo on Facebook
Her eyes bright green
Her hair in curls flowing
Her skin glowing --
Smiling;
She was an athlete
dancing across the ice
She was tall and lean
Curves in the right place
Her beaded costumes enhanced her look
an air of grace surrounded her
Youthful face

Where is that young athlete
She's not in my mirror
time has passed
Skin has wrinkled and cracked
Eyes are dim with heavy lids

Deep inside
She is still here
Although her memories
Are not so clear
She counts her blessings
For her life she lived
In faith walking
To the end
Of this life's cycle

As it should be

wow, you said it!! I see pictures from 15 years ago and it makes me feel sad actually. Wish I could get to having more of the acceptance you show in your final line. I just keep hoping for better wrinkle creams!!! Congrats on your win. Loved this poem.
