She Was Shattered Glass

He adored her joyfulness Wanted it for himself Desired her in new ways She felt honored and beloved. He was attentive, Brought her gifts Paid attention to her Showed he was a gentleman Her relatives did not trust him Did not understand him She defended him Married him This is when she saw the real he that he was He had turned from Jekyll to Hyde Her hopes and dreams were now shattered glass She was a doll, kept on a shelf, ready to break Each day was a nightmare There were slaps and punches Her relatives had been right But she was isolated now She was his puppet. Living in his world Ashamed and terrified Today might be her last
