Notes About The Poem

Public health insurance does cover gender reassignment surgery but not the surgery to remove the Adam's Apple; an obvious masculine marker that increases the risk of transgendered women being harassed and attacked. I have a friend living with a brain injury from one such attack, one of many she has endured. She did finally have the surgery.

She Stuck Her Neck Out

This is great, Maureen. We have a woman like this that used to be at Soup. I don't know if she is still here but she took a lot of crap when she was in Viet Nam serving with the Marines long before she finally transgendered. I really like your support of them.
