She Laughs With Them
(slowly, quietly)
She’s… far.
Not just in distance —
but in everything now.
And I see her…
laughing in pictures,
with faces I don’t know.
Guys I’ve never met,
names that suddenly
live in the spaces
where I used to belong.
(pauses)
They make her smile.
They make her forget
how quiet I’ve become.
And I—
I just watch from here,
pretending it doesn’t tear me apart.
I tell myself—
it’s okay.
She deserves to be happy.
I tell myself—
they’re just friends.
But my heart…
my stupid, stubborn heart
doesn’t believe me.
Because every time she says,
“I was out with them again,”
it feels like another door closing—
softly,
but completely.
(whispers)
I used to be the one
she shared everything with.
Now I’m just
the one who watches her
share everything with everyone else.
I still wait for her messages,
like prayers that never reach the sky.
I still type
and delete,
type
and delete—
like maybe if I say the wrong thing,
she’ll drift even farther.
(breathes shakily)
I’m not mad at her.
I’m not even jealous, really.
I’m just scared.
Scared she’ll forget
how my name used to sound
when it made her laugh.
So I scroll,
and I smile,
and I whisper—
“Be happy.”
Even if happiness
doesn’t have me in it anymore.
(long pause)
Because that’s what love does, right?
It stays.
Even when you’re not chosen.
Even when you’re miles away—
watching her laugh
with them.
