She Gave Me the Key Points
They came toward me as a snotty group of two
Sniveling and snarling
Complaining
I could tell they had already been picking
My innards out of my chest before I arrived
I listened to them
But did not hear
Because their straight-lined angry mouths
And their chicken pecking lips turned me off
My mentor was listening.
She heard what I could not.
She gave me the key points and advice
which I took, because she knows how to talk to me
Buttering me up first, telling me I am not a damaged puppy.
I took her advice, and I applied it because it was sound.
Because it was good advice.
And because she loves me
And I love her.
I had never been buttered up by the likes of her before.
She took my angry mean thoughts about myself
And she changed them up, making me seem
Exotic, pointing out my sense of humor,
Making me seem vastly witty and
Wonderful. This was the difference
Which is why I take all advice
She gives because she loves
me and I love her.
