Shattered Pieces

The unbroken mirror reflected only my stare
Though when shattered the pieces lying there
Reflect more truth than they ever could while whole
The angled pieces now piercing my soul

Unbroken it only saw what before it I'd place
Never knowing the demons I often face
But the jagged sharp pieces before me now
Are finding those places where they dwell somehow

They seem to be taking me slowly apart
I look for me with no place to start
I try to put them together but only find
A distorted image of my tortured mind

I gather them up and throw them away
Fearing my soul inside them forever may stay
I'll hang a shiny new mirror on the wall
And forget this day ever happened at all

Hi Donna, I took your advice and read your poem, it expresses a lot of thought as when the mirror is broken the memories become many as these memories stretch out right through the barriers of time, it is no wonder they say, a broken mirror will give you 7 years of bad luck, replacing the mirror is not really the answer because it will start all over again. lol. Congrats on this touching feature. I see this in a lot of the kids I work with. Sometimes the new mirror takes a long time arriving.

Dear Donna, Hope this finds YOU and YOURS Healthy and High in the Spirit. I usually start reading a POET from thier beginning on POETRYSOUP. When YOUR first POEM is Perfection as this POEM is, it is hard to comment on YOUR future Perfect POEMS. Words such as Excellent,Awesome, and Superb(my favourite) seem to be blahza. I Love Rhyme, Haiku, Senryu, and Free Verse. The rhyming, message, and the Imagery are well defined in this POETIC Masterpiece. I bow to YOUR Laureatus Talent. A crown of Laurel

Donna, I'm so glad you noticed my writing. I have found another poet to add to my favorite list.... You are a pleasure to read... even in those reflecting less than pleasant topics. This one reminds me of "Reflections" written about myself as seen in the mirror..... Love Ya dearly...... Jake

About your poem; I like the way you ended the poem. Reassuring yourself that picking up the pieces and not looking back are the right thing. A very sad poem...but the ending is very uplifting... hope to see you around more... and when you post your first blog...please alert me... he he... always~ LINDA
