Shady Daybreak Notions

Velvet murmur hue
intuits bright peep day clue
yet dark sky sports smirk!!

Sly sombre omen,
magpie in mute throat a ruse,
connivance in jest!!

Rain coat, brolly, cap,
light shower from downcast vault,
or oddball dry spell!!

What a fun read with this haiku series. Good use of sound here, Howard. Is brolly British term for umbrella?

So glad you had fun reading this, Andrea. You noticed my use of sound too, thank you. Brolly is informal slang in Ireland, the UK for unbrella, it is used also in Australia and New Zealand. Hope that clarifies the term for you H

How youv painted imagery dear Howard is absolutely stunning and so very different, and I love your word choices and the way youv written these. Especially love the lines “ yet dark sky sports smirk!!” theres a touch of personification there! I like !” light shower from downcast vault, or oddball dry spell!!” exquisite ending! Pleasure reading this! Sending you light always 💫 🌙

A clever, moody senryu sequence—the “magpie in mute throat” feels especially ominous, while the final weather-guessing scene lands with a wry, everyday twist.

Dear Howard, this poem paints vivid imagery through its creative use of language and metaphor. It evokes an intriguing and very beautiful contrast between light and dark, both in mood and in weather. The structure is effectively compact, making it easy to follow your deep reflection.

We never know about the weather with what seems like some strange patterns, but this has happened before in my lifetime. I guess you are always prepared by taking the umbrella. 👏✍️. Way to go. Sara K.

Hi Sara, Yes our weather is increasingly unpredictable. But it has its charms from time to time. Thank you so very much for your gracious visits. Howard
