Shadows of My Leaving

I cast down the trenchcoat past, Shrug it's weight onto the floor, Step the lightbulb uncertain With ginger steps towards the door. And a final glance shot Over one shoulder or another, Lingering looks and visual hooks Snag the fading of a lover. I draw her symbol to me So I may kiss the shadows Of my leaving from her brow, And whisper that my heart Will be with her again...somehow.
