Shadows Dance

As shadows play and dance away
   upon the walls within her mind,
         her thoughts portray of yesterday
      and long lost dreams she left behind.

A candle's light glows in the night,
   and casts its shadows from the past
         of love’s delight, though ‘twas finite,
      these hopes and dreams that didn’t last.

A once bright flame she couldn’t tame,
   his passions burning uncontrolled;
         she’s not to blame, it’s such a shame
      that dying embers left her cold.

These mem’ries gaunt as shadows taunt
   the tearful thoughts of love’s decay
         with endless daunt despite her want,
      and still these shadows dance away.

"and still these shadows dance away" This last thought tugs deeply at my heart. I don't know why. Could be the memories that linger within the poem. This is hauntingly beautiful, tender in so many ways. I wish to place this in my favorites. Well done my dear sweet friend. Hugs, Brandy

John, once again I am awed by not only the intelligent theme of your poetry, but the construction of it is wonderful. Excellent work my poetic friend.
