Shadows

It speaks to me in light when I can’t lie
The shadow on the floor that takes my eyes
It speaks to me in dark when I can’t hide
The demons that are making me despise
Heaven dies

I breathe it in the night when I can’t cry
That cold air coming close as I realise
I breathe it in the day whilst I deny
The cold air holds me tighter as I try
Seven times

Haunting everything that’s in my mind
Ghosts can wander in and lead me blind
Haunting everywhere I’ve come to find
The memories of places where I died
Got denied

I see it every time I must hold on
Running everywhere I can’t belong
I see it every time I write a song
Bring myself too close until I’m gone
Been too long

I can feel its breath calling my name
Every time I realise we’re the same
I can feel its eyes looking for blame
Why must my shadow play these little games?
Never tamed
