Shadows
Frightened not by shadows cast upon the wall,
but by the angry ghosts of past long locked away that call.
Walking darkened pathways, looking out for light,
shadows too close for comfort on this endless night.
Footsteps behind me follow as I relive that fateful night,
when a stranger fast behind me had me fighting for my life.
His hands caught at my throat and in his eyes a flash of horror,
I fell upon the ground with little faith I'd see tomorrow,
stirring some time later with my dress all ripped and torn,
and a pain of knife wounds deep within, that made me wish I'd not been born.
Flashing blue came cavalry on a horse that was cloaked in white,
and heroes to my aid, that saved my near gone life.
Frightened not by shadows cast upon the wall,
but by the tall dark figure that struck me to the floor.
