Shadow

Look at that little girl
With the round joy-filled face
A shadow of my happy past
Dancing with young grace

Before this calamity began
Before that wretched time
Came pleasure and fun
And warm laughing chimes

No sorrows or troubles
No need to frown or cry
But as they say
You don't realise what you have
Until it is taken away

My past was so happy
While the future is unclear
My destiny is in certain
A good reason to fear

Who am I
And where will I go
Where will my fate take me
To friend or to foe

How will I move forward
Knowing what I left behind
Was a graceful young child
With peace in her mind

Look at that little girl
With the round joy-filled face
A shadow of my happy past
Dancing with young grace
