Shades of Blue and Gray

Disappointment comes in shades of blue and gray Delivered with a large dose of dashing hope, My mind vacillates between sadness and dismay. ‘Tis time to put on a happy face for a better day Fighting the strong urge to sit around and mope, Disappointment comes in shades of blue and gray. For me, disappointment is a perfect way to decay, It is always important to find a solution, to cope My mind vacillates between sadness and dismay. It helps finding something amusing to enjoy, to play Or, engaging in an activity that enlarges my scope, Disappointment comes in shades of blue and gray. Even then, on the edges of my mind, I cannot allay Feelings that, somehow, I’m at the end of my rope, My mind vacillates between sadness and dismay. When disappointment strikes, I wish I could be gay I suppose the censors will allow me this apt trope, Disappointment comes in shades of blue and gray My mind vacillates between sadness and dismay.

"It helps finding something amusing to enjoy, to play" - for sure!

I think we all experience disappointment from time to time for various reasons. I hoped to point that out, but also to say we can move beyond it.

Aside from the content, which the reader will never know if it results from a state of mind or a poetic daydream, in this poem the form attracts me, vilanelle, and I can say without fear of error that it turned out wonderful, Milton!

Thank you so much, Marco. I'll let you wonder about it; perhaps, judge for yourself. Your insightful and thoughtful comments are always thoroughly enjoyed.

When disappointment strikes we should look for a distraction to lift our drooping spirits, not always easy though. Tom

You are so right, Tom. I feel very sorry for people who allow disappointment to cripple them for an extended period of time.

You always seem to be well-balanced to me, Milt. Keeping your options open and being broad-minded gives you a balanced personality. Gray clouds move along, and even if it rains, the sun will shine again.

Absolutely. Yes, Jenna, this poem is not so much about me as it is my understanding of disappointment. I had a slight disappointment this morning, which I think provoked the poem; by-in-large, I am a very even-keeled individual. Or at least I think so. Thank you so much for your thoughts.

Take heart, my friend, and do not mope; At least you’re not a lycanthrope! No howling in the blue and gray; Breathe deep, exhale the stress away!

Aw, I'll take you up on that the next time I experience some disappointment. See my comment to Jenna. I was essentially sharing my thinking on disappointment. Thank you so much, Jeff, for your continuing encouragement and positivity.
