September Heat

Summer should have ended by now. There are a few cool days, but somehow, We still have extreme heat. So ice cream is all I want to eat. As pumpkin spice arrives. And leaves fall on our cars as we drive. Darkness settles in early. But there are still mosquitoes that keep us surly. We just put away the grill. We want to swim but the pool is closed still. If only fall would be on time… As I pass by a sign. For a cider mill. But we are sweltering, still. So instead, I go buy ice cream. Over the radio, I hear someone sing. A song about enjoying summer. Which annoys me during this burning September.
