Sentence
He sits there looking back
Wishing he knew then
Everything he knew now
His words burned her skin
Bruised and bleeding of all he lacks
She knew wounds can heal
But some would leave scars
He doesn’t see the years
He just let it go too far
Until she could no longer feel
As long as she was blind
His words were all she heard
Had her in his grasp
She was his little caged bird
Until one day she made up her mind
She opened her eyes
Now he’s left standing alone
With his bag of mistakes
Her heart is now of stone
But she looks to the sky
He realizes he had it all
Of love that slipped away
Love oh so good
Her colors turned to gray
A star began to fall
If only he reached out
Took her by the hand
He wouldn’t be looking back
On a hourglass emptied of sand
On what he brought about
He’s the real reason
For the scars she wears
What a sentence to carry
For losing something so rare
Now endure the cold season
He will forever curse the day
For never being the man
Left with less than nothing
A life he never planned
For she’s far flown away
