Senseless

Who deals these cards with random care?
So senseless it seems to mortal minds
When cruel chaos draws the blinds
    And sanctions mindless death.
With suddenness we are not there,
  A candle snuffed with nonchalance
And given not a second chance
    To draw another breath.

If we could know what is to be
Would that our fragile souls appease
  Or simply kill our reveries,
    Beloved plans and schemes?
At very least all that we see
And do and touch will carry on
In those we tendered love upon
    Our cherished hopes and dreams.

There is no sense or reason why
The good die young with no reprieve
With friends and family left to grieve
    Their passing by the way.
In life, in truth, time marches by
No choice save travel in it's wake
And pray we heal for pity's sake
And strive to face each day.
