Self Portrait

Self Portrait If my picture hung on the wall I’d wonder what you’d see Would the brush lines show? A truer side of me Would the winkles in my face? Give away my age Or the slightest hint of gray? Show up on the page Would the fire that burns inside? Show up through my eyes Or would my smile give away? The passion that simply hides Would the frame box me in? Controlling what you see Would I be represented? The way I’d wanted to be Would you hang me in the light? To show off all my flaws Or hang me in a darken room? To brighten up the walls Either way, I don’t care For I don’t plan to see For no picture could contain The real side of me

The ending is what caught me. A good poem starts with the first or last line. Very good. I hope you keep writing.
