Secrets of the Sea

When moonbeams dance upon the placid sea;
When billowing waves seethe endlessly;
I ponder what secrets the sea might yield,
Should its ageless mysteries be revealed!

Are there unknown monsters lurking in the deep?
Might it divulge where ancient mariners sleep?
Where rest fleets of sailing ships with holds of gold?
Are there seething volcanoes, disasters waiting to unfold?

Where lie armadas sunk in conflict due to mankind's folly,
Sunk in mighty battles with cannons' fearsome volley?
Although the inscrutable sea will not confide in me,
I can still meditate upon closely held secrets of the sea!

Westerns and nautical verse always catches my eye, an enjoyable read Bob, it's another world beneath the waters, the sea can be calm or ferocious when it wants to be. Hope you're keeping well. Congratulations on having this one featured this week. Tom

5/25/2025 Bob I commentented to this on your mainpage also.,hours ago and its not there! The image on it is beautiful)) So let me try again! In sum, this is a thoughtful poem about the sea… which I love? Your imagery is totally stunning! The very first two lines draw me right in. And you are right, we shan’t ever know the secrets of the sea. The sunken ships.we still are captured by its mystery and beauty.. Congrats on being an awesome…featured poem! I could read endless poems about the mysteries the sea contains. There are so many creatures that have yet to be discovered and named that have existed even before mankind. It is so interesting to explore. I enjoyed your poem with its wonderful perfect rhyme. Cheers, Connie

Another wonderful gem from your pen, Bob. Is it any wonder that you have such a strong following here on the Soup? ps. I have not seen anything posted on the Duet Contest as yet, have you? Also, I somehow managed to erase my email list, so if you would resend I would appreciate it.

I love your poem. The sea does hold many secrets. I wrote one called "Discretion" about the secrets of the sea, but it goes in a little different direction. Definitely A7

Thank you so much Jan. I've been thinking about this one for quite a while and it finally gelled today. I envy you living on the island! I love island living - I spent nearly 3 years in Bermuda while in the Air Force.
