Secret Tears

Where do tears come from? I was asked
By someone who is dear to me
Her green eyes turned to me at last
And said, “you know please answer me”

The question was a simple one 
I did not know how to tell her
For tears are shed by everyone
What answer should I give to her?

They do come when we are happy
They do show up when we are sad
They stain cheeks when we’re unhappy 
Or they are present when we’re mad

The tears come from things left undone
These tears come out when we’re alone
At times tears come when we have won 
These tears show up when truth is known 

As for myself, I seldom cry 
My little girl’s eyes were downcast 
A little tear upon her cheek
I wraped my arms around her

My heart was full of love
And I began to cry.
