Second Act

Before we depart this earthly sphere,
We strain to envision what will follow.
Our minds may catch and crimp in fear
And promises of heaven seem hollow.

Every human heart knows that feeling—
The horror of losing one's being.
The thought sends the mind reeling,
And faith in an afterlife past seeing.

Foreboding moments dressed in grey
Are tailored to remind us of a fact:
Our Savior's atonement bled the way
For us to live again in a second act.

Many do scoff, deride, and mock.
They count the God-fearing as fools.
But when their lives are out of clock,
They wish they had lived by His rules.
