Searching

I'm not the child my parents wanted
They didn't get their moneys worth
You know I didn't quite choose them
They weren't my Mom and Dad at birth

Adoption is the strangest thing
Rootless feelings plague you so
At times, just don't know who you are
What you're becoming as you grow

Through the years you grow a heart
Fiercely try to feel the love
Knowing all the while you're empty
When it comes to push and shove

The sins of the father visited on
Backs of the children here and there
This picture isn't painted right
But you tell yourself you just don't care

Yet truth be told imagination
It's all you have to hold onto
An idealistic child,you are
Not content to think it through

And in the end reflection takes you
Back to where soft words were spoken
Cradled in your mamas arms
Long before it all got broken
