Sea Stones

A soul's time on earth is fleeting -
sometimes parting, sometimes greeting
other souls who sometimes touch us,
sometimes less, sometimes as much as
a universe within a single heart,
before these souls must then depart,
making room for other souls.
It's written in creation's scrolls,
but what if souls then turn to stones,
along the seashore instead of bones,
lapped by waves that caress and soothe
till some are beautiful and smooth?
Then might one rock, especially fair,
lie by a gnarled one, a wave set there?

I should have said more about this one but was in a rush first time I commented. This is almost like a contemporary sonnet or something. The idea is similar to the one of stars being souls that have passed. But truly our souls are not stars or stones. I do love that this is spiritual nonetheless.

Actually, one reason, I like this poem is that an old friend had the idea of rocks being old souls or something like that, and so I decided to make a poem out of it.

Oh, the depth, so profound and smoothly written. Have your sons read any of your poetry? Personally. I have reason to believe young souls make rocks in Heaven while more advanced souls can create waterfalls and more. I think such is part of why I cry at the sight of litter. Hey, learn me this; are the push pens by poem titles so those thus marked will sit top? I can't make out where they are to select. btw, pls know I'm going to fav and rave at times but surely, I won't remember to push LIKE (above) so forgive me now. I must adjust to all the new things to do or not because there's already so much to accomplish every time I get on Soup. You are dear ... CayCay

I hope your SON, (brain lapse, I typed SONS) at least realizes he's got a talented papa. I send poems to my sister with little feedback, but I do it anyway and I'm not sure why I subject myself to what feels like her semi-noninterest. I'd rather be a hammer than a nail, yes, I would if I could, I surely would ... I was singing that just yesterday (no one was home so it was okay.) Thank you so much for explaining the button / pushpin thing, truly. I am constantly tweaking my poems, no matter how old one is, I pick at it. Have a good day if you can, I know you will, if you can, you surely will. Always have fun with you.

Thanks, CayCay. I've sent a couple of my poems to my son - if they're something that he might specifically be interested in, but not too much. Your comment reminds me of that El Condor Pasa song by Simon and Garfunkel, "I'd rather be a waterfall than a rock". Well, I guess they don't say that. Yes, the pins make a poem sit on top. I pinned a few new ones that I wrote and liked as I wrote them (doesn't mean they're good - I almost always like them...at first). On the left hand side of my poems, I see something that looks like a little blue balloon. By clicking it, it turns it into a pushpin which pins your poem. I appreciate you kind comments!

Ahh!! Nice thought/s about the possibility of stones being alive with a spirit of someone, but alas that is not the way it is. Some river rock and I am sure some rocks on the shores become made smooth with time and have a beauty all their own. I enjoyed reading this one. Thank you for sharing it with us, David. Way to go. Your musing brings thoughts. I am sure the wave dropped of the smooth stone to calm the gnarled.⭐

Fascinating musings, David. We seem to be on the same 'wave'-length tonight...
