Scotch Off Guard

empty stomach
eyes bagged from lunch
lingering taste
of the hangover hunch
cotton chew
of minced inner cheek
dead cigarette cloak
stains of the meek

dreams of a bedside fountain
flow through
the dry mouth dream
hopes for buildup to swallow
to flush the liquid unclean

ache of head
drool glued to the bed
a familiar vortex
spins out of control
sudden slip
of equilibrium
force dishonest tears to roll

The vivid imagery forwards your thoughts in a creative way. One suggestion--I would change the category to free verse instead of prose poetry. Sad ending. Much to think about in your words. Thank you for sharing this well-written poem with us and for your kind thoughts on my poem. Keep on writing! Karen
