Saving My Buddy

As I gaze into my buddy's eyes
I'm feeling so much dread
He could be lost,I realize
One more among the dead

This muddy swamp is thick and vile
Somehow we'll make it through
We will trudge each and every mile
Do what our pal would do

This war is not made for the weak
I'm here put to the test
Carnage is at an all-time peak
But Americans show their best

So we travel on to save our buddy
Struck down by the Viet Cong
My thoughts are dark,my body's muddy
But we need to keep moving along

One day I know this war will end
And I'll be homeward bound
For now we've an SOS to send
While the enemy tries to surround

I'll send a powerful prayer up high
That my buddy will be alright
As we approach, the copter draws nigh
In the breaking morning light
