Savage leading the blind
He wrote many a Hollywood flick
But he didn't comprehend
What really makes bad men tick
The motives to the bitter end.
He thought that need made burglars rob
He was stuck believing the golden rule
He couldn't understand the pile-on of the mob
He couldn't explain a bully in a school
I took him aside, I tried to persuade
That there are people who
Think hurting others is worth the trade
They're not like me, they're not like you.
There were propagandist puppeteers
and some who want all of us to believe the same
People who want to open the gate
To an old scapegoat blaming game.
His scripts had folks big and mean
But badness comes in shapes and forms
The beautiful, the ugly, and in between
Inside the mind, circling storms.
I showed him many compromised
The price for them of truth too high
They'd get stuck in their own web of lies
The rest must keep their powder dry.
So he wrote a script that examined the soul
It adhered to the way things really are
But nobody would touch it with a ten foot pole
Because Hollywood ain't a mirror, its a star.
Do we know the sea in which we swim
Do we really understand mankind
The whirlpool that we've plunged in
The savage leading the blind?
