Sand In Your Hair

Sand in Your Hair There was sand in your hair the other day As we walked the beach through surf and play Holding hands as foam darts between our toes Talking of lives, loves, friends, and foes Gentle wind pushes the tide forward and back Like a clock keeping time, keeping track We strolled with nothing planned No watch to wind, feet in the sand The hours passed, the light grew dim Others around were spread quite thin At this time, I looked in your face It’s there I saw beauty and grace Humbled to be here, happy it’s you Feelings of joy, feeling renewed The chill returns, the sea swallows the sun Time and space embrace as one We began to walk back, retracing our stride But our footprints were gone, lost in the tide I thought, this is life: this simple little fact You can only go forward, you can never go back On the beach we walked, arm in arm Hearts in our hands, feeling your charm A simple day for me and you Not looking beyond what we saw or knew At that moment, with no special want or care I noticed that you still had sand in your hair
