Salt Kiss

Who knew the distance to the seas
As hearts meander on the tides
Forever locked in memories

Sighing waters rush, cavorting wild and free
Ask not what lies, hidden from our eyes
Who knew the distance to the seas

Fearless as a feather caught upon a breeze
Cast about upon the brine
Forever locked in memories

We closed our ears to mothers' pleas
Nimbley dancing or' the rocks we climbed
Who knew the distance to the seas

We dipped our toes and screamed with glee
Counted the starfish, all seaweed entwined
Forever locked in memories

Life was short, with no guarantees
We worshiped sun, sand, salt kisses divine
Who knew the distance to the seas
Forever locked in memories

Beautifully crafted villanelle, Valerie! I count it as I blessing that I could observe these scenes of my childhood in the lives of my children and grandchildren as well! Cheers, David
