Sacrifice

were you saving it for later
savoring future thoughts
were you trying to pull it together
this life, your past, these hopes

were you looking for who you are
as you leave your past in a ditch
were you thinking I'd wait forever
and there would be no hitch

were you swimming against the current
as your dreams all float downstream
were you trying to pull it together
as you sacrifice one true thing
