S Omeone U Nderstands E Verything

I NEVER LAID EYES ON THE LADY, SO SHE’S WHATEVER I MAKE
                                        HER OUT TO BE

The other day a poet more competent than I posed a question to me
She asked “from whence comes your inspiration, but any reply must be true’
My inspiration comes in the middle of the night when asleep I should be
"And lovely lady, all to oft my inspiration involves a woman like you”

One must keep in mind that we’ve never seen each other’s eyes
Or toasted to the bride and groom at a wedding fit for a king
I am the last one to ask why it sounds as if she thinks me wise
"Hence I told you foresworn that there is a poem in everything"

The sodden, sorrowful, salacious, or dreams coming true for the heart of your soul
And everything you hope for, even inspiration is in that prayer
So you stare at patient paper and tell it how you feel on the whole
Because my dear, talent such as yours is purity and rare

Take from the sky that which it yearns for you to write about
Then look at the children, the birds and those old oak trees
If you stay silent you’ll hear inspiratiionn in the silence of doubt
And squeeze every drop of poetry from one Autumnal breeze
