Notes About The Poem

Running Water

Running water in the summer
Go in awashin' with soap
Now the creek is covered 
In overgrowth like a cloak

Staying with my aunt, clever was she
She'd say let's go swimming in the creek
She'd grab some towels, slip in the soap
Then we'd wash so we'd not reek

Loving, happy memories now
As I view her lovely face
Have you ever had an aunt so kind
It seemed she was cloaked in Grace

Now she's gone on to her reward
The trees, bushes now overgrown
Right up to the very creek she owned
How now going in awashin' I long

Sara Kendrick October 4, 2018 at 8:28 AM Sheri, She was a special lady. She died such a horrible death from cancer of the plasma of the blood. I think they call it Multiple Myeloma ...There is treatment for it today but back then there wasn't much that could be done. Thanks for your visits to my page. Sara
