Running

I walk out into meek sunlight The sun has barely come up yet This used to be my time of day Before the birds would even wake, you bet How has this time passed me by? How has this life suddenly stood still? How can something turn so empty? Of what used to be so fulfilled I breathe in that good country air I tighten the laces of my shoes I glance over my shoulder at the sun, Peeking at me and making brand new hues I thud down pebble drive to the dirt road I pass sleepy houses and drowsy cows I round mail boxes and rows of corn I think and renew all of those lost vows To give more of myself to me Everyone else can wait To find that other part of myself That part to be my soul mate
