Run Rabbit, Run
I had not seen a wild rabbit since I was a child,
but with my joyous gaze, I saw one a few days ago.
No, seeing one did not bring me to tears, but it cast
me some 50-plus years ago. I was born in a rural area
and have returned after many years to retire near the area
where I was born. Rabbits were a part of 'the hunt' when I
was young, and one had to be a pretty good shooter to
kill a rabbit because they knew how to duck and dive,
sway left and right, and run very fast. Presently, I'm not
a hunter and have no plans of being one, and I hope that
The rabbits I see will continue to evade the shotgun blast
of hunters. And to the rabbits, I say, "Run rabbit, run!"
