Roy's Goodbye To Summer

For four months summer was a delight,
now gloomy thoughts repel its joy...
seeing the tiny sparrows on flight
and the teary sad face of little Roy.

" Summer, sweet summer don't go! "
he cries out thinking of short days
and evenings at home spent in sorrow...
missing friends and scorching sun rays.

A thought gloomier than a summer's goodbye
deepens the sadness in his empty heart..
not hearing the screams of another victory
on a field that was crowded even after dark.

Sitting on the stoop as the first leaves fall and land into his lap...
telling him that Fall has arrived at his door by bringing chilly air;
will Roy pat his pooch that wiggles his tail needing attention and care?
Why does he feels lonely and hopeless if he has him and his friendship?
