Roses Without Thorns

I am approaching the age when my siblings and I spared our precious Mom of our many woes. We only told her things she could bear, and those things that weren’t necessary, when we saw her... we brought her hug, love and smiles. I believe I’m getting there now. While I will always go to the battlefield for my beautiful children, I now need them to go there for me.
ROSES WITHOUT THORNS
Please give me roses without thorns,
Can no longer remove the thorns alone,
for the young today, thorns are so many.
My days of youth near gone.
Touch me softly, for I bruise now easily,
I see more than I care to speak,
I hear things that I dare not reveal,
Closed eyes not always sleep.
I go into the shadows now,
You have all that you have earned.
In God’s shelter I take my refuge there,
Tears now makes my heart burn.
Dried roses keep well our memories,
Once given to me with thorns,
Strong hearts strong of those who trust in Him
Only God to mend what’s torn.
