Roll of Honour

Such a long list of names,
associated with untold pain.
So, many lives gone,
in many ways so wrong.

As their lives they gifted,
so, their names are listed.
The names and dates go on,
as they march to death’s song.

Their moments are defined,
and the list marks their time.
Through sadness and tears,
their loved ones move on in years.

Children soon forget,
and wives no longer regret,
times that were spent,
and hard words not meant.

I’m sure you get the gist,
of the every-growing honour list.

The thing about a roll of honour, although painful, it also keeps the honoured in our thoughts, memories and gives them a place in life.
