River

all my thoughts lead to you like tributaries to a river
Memories rush through my mind growing into a powerful wave
that begins beating against a wall of torment
which flings them carelessly back to the shore of where your silky voice dances on my soul

I'm searching for you but your footsteps disappear with the tide of emotion
the complicated bouquet of your fragrance lingers on my sheets and scrapes the smoothness of my lungs
The ghostly traces of you on my skin evaporate into silent burns
My chest tightens around my breath as my heart forces its beat violently outward
