RIP Little Osprey
From tiny hatchlings soft and new,
I watched them grow in morning’s hue,
each wobbling step, each stretching wing,
their fragile lives a hopeful thing.
They lifted me on darker days,
with simple joys and quiet ways,
a family rising toward the sky,
reminding me that hearts can fly.
But dawn broke hard — a heavy blow,
the news arrived with grief in tow,
one little voice forever stilled,
a promise lost the heat had killed.
I felt the crush, the sudden sting,
the kind that makes the world go dim,
yet still I stayed, I couldn’t leave,
to honor what I came to grieve.
For nature holds her solemn rites,
her silent funerals, her final nights,
and watching feels like something due,
a last respect, a witness true.
So rest, small soul, your flight begun,
your spirit rising with the sun.
Though sorrow weighs upon my chest,
I’ll keep the vigil at your nest.
