I was about 10 yrs old when this occured as I had a childhood friend whose backyard was next to this other 'yard'. Turns out this other yard belonged to a relatively famous resident in our town, who was a Hall of Fame baseball manager, although at the time, I didn't really know much about him.

With almost no delay or hesitation, My friend and I climbed high over the wall. Our burden was light, as we were armed Only with our gloves, a bat, and a ball. Landing back on earth I was blinded by This amazing field of grass so green. In fact, that backyard lawn was greener Than any other lawn I've ever seen! Then running around like kids do... a Couple of future 'big leaguers' laughing & playing. Soon enough, the day's warmth interrupted, By a tray of lemonade, our thirst slaying. Then without any warning, we were invited into The home, just for what was called, 'a quick tour'. Once inside, I felt the 'baseball gods' beckon From Valhalla, of that much, I was sure. I was awestruck to see and touch all the baseball Memorabilia, gathered from a lifetime's love of the game. It gave my young life new meaning and direction- To play our 'national pastime', for joy, not fortune or fame. This visit through history will always be with me, Having sculpted much of my life along the way. And if I live to be a hundred and fifty... Maybe that's God's version, of a double-play.
