Return of the Wood Pecker

Rat-a-tat-tat a-tat-tat-tat At five o’clock in the morning Sounds from the hungry wood pecker Are an early springtime warning The neighbor’s metal siding Help reverberate the sound Rat-a-tat-tat a-tat-tat-tat Inside my head does pound Rat-a-tat-tat a-tat-tat-tat At the first sign of morning light I’m going to get my son’s old b-b-gun And line that bird up in my sight I am glad that spring is on her way And winter will soon be gone Rat-a-tat-tat a-tat-tat-tat But I could do without that song NOTE: You can blame this one on Mike Dailey and Francine Roberts who put me up to it after reading a status about this darn wood pecker on my FB page.

Funny little poem. i had a woodpecker rat-a-tatting me today as I was gardening. I was NOT thinking of writing a poem, so thanks for the humor.

hahaha, this is cute as can be, Joe. I see it's not for a contest but just for something that inspired you from your everyday life, the best way to be able to do a poem!! One little thing: "metal" siding. I'm glad you liked my ghost poem. I started out with a really STUPID poem about missing things in my bedroom and suddenly the idea for it to be a ghost (with a deeper meaning to it) came to me. I LOVE when things happen that way!!

i know that woodpecker sound and you've captured it well. since i don't hear it that often, i kind of like it, though, but i'm sure it could get really annoying. i like this poem a lot!
