Retired Seniors

I spent my whole life working,
ne'er once was on the dole.
Now that I'm retired and old,
I wonder "Why?" that goal.

SS's my retirement;
that's all I have to use.
Is does not go all that far;
no help do I refuse.

State-wide programs do I seek
to help me make ends meet.
Food stamps just are not enough
for all I need to eat.

Heating bills go up and up;
no refuge is in sight.
They keep cutting HEAP programs;
no one will help my plight.

I think that the government
does really hate old souls
Won't provide the needed help
for us to reach our goals.

We're the ones who put in funds
for our retirement.
Washington took all our dough;
it was so badly spent.

Here I sit in poverty.
Less money every day.
How long can I last like this?
I live from day to day.

It is such a shame what they have done to your money. I just hope there is some left in 15 years when I get there.

Thanks so much for reading. Sorry to be the bearer of sad tidings, but SS is supposed to be bankrupt long before that. I just hope that I do not live long enough to see it.
