Rest Easy, Love
Rest easy, love.
With your palms in the grass.
Rest easy, love
You’re at peace, at last.
The birds still chirp in the mornings.
The lightning bugs still fly at night.
And our eyes will follow the cardinal
Every time it takes flight
With its red wings
Disappearing up into the blue
We can't help but know
It's taking our messages to you.
So hear me when I say
With all the love in my heart.
In our souls you will stay
Till with our bodies, they part.
While your voice and face may fade
As our minds start to wither
Just know nothing can erase you
Your memory will always flicker.
Don’t listen to our heartache
Or any tears that you observe
Just the fact we got to know you
Was more grace than we deserve.
While we wanted you to stay,
And God knows I begged and asked
To heaven you went away
And we could never bring you back.
You’re not in pain, love
You can run and be free.
But whatever you do, love
Don’t forget about me.
