The Rescue Party

It was only after the dance
That we spoke
The music that enhanced
The chances of the chance meeting
Faded into the night
And there we were
Standing alone on the steps
leading to tomorrow
The embrace was spontaneous and
The steps were unrehearsed
and the song we sang together
Were versed in our own unspoken words
and the tune flowed from our hearts
To our heads
As an evening’s failure fades
Into a rescue party
