Requiem

Standing on this hillside
looking down below
I can see the fields
where all the poppies grow

each flower, a reminder
of where some brave once fell
so that we could have a future
they bid their own farewell

They walked towards their foes
their sweethearts name upon their breath
hoping to taste victory
willing to embrace death

They fought for king and country
for people worldwide
and now their deeds are remembered
by poppies on a hillside
