Remembrance
April 9th through the 12th of Nineteen Seventeen
The battle cry at Vimy Ridge, the worst we’d ever seen,
In the North of France, so far from home, a position we must take
Keep it from the Germans, Our world is now at stake.
It was 0530 on April 9th, Bloody Easter was its name
Four Canadian divisions, knew this was no game,
Hill 145, the Pimple, objectives are a must
The lives we’ll take, and those we’ll lose, our cause is
Right and just,
100,000 French Soldiers, could not do what you have done,
The blood you gave, added to theirs, in this battle you have won.
15,000 brave Canadians, rallied for the prize
More than 10,000 had fallen, 3600 died,
At 0900 the “Iron Sixth” joined the battles fray
As to what they witnessed, myself I cannot say
The horrors they recorded, on the field of war those days
Are memories all Canadians, should never let away.
So today let us remember, the sacrifice they made
The freedoms that we all enjoy, for the freedom that they gave…..
