Remembering When
I remember when
I wondered about my heritage;
just where it all began
Yearning for family I said
I'll find them if I can.
I remember when
Mama passed when I was five
my siblings were far-flung.
I cried so much I could not see
for I was very young.
I remember when
I grew to be a certain age;
determination flourished.
There was some information gleaned.
I felt hopeful and nourished.
I remember when
The day my older sister came;
walked back into my life.
She'd searched also for years it seemed
amidst much pain and strife.
I remember when
The joy we felt was peppered with sad
for we were missing others.
Never were we able to find
two of our younger brothers.
I remember when
We never gave up hope for them
and we still search today.
We'll search until we leave this earth;
for them we'll always pray.
