Remembering

I wonder what you thought as you poured her another shot
Handed it over just slightly out of her reach, causing her to break a party rule you never failed to teach
“If you spill a drink then you drink twice more,” vodka and rum galore
She hadn’t been sober for quite some time, dancing and laughing with a friend of mine
Another drink presented by your array, your hand brushed hers as she took it away
She felt strange but soon forgot as her and I took a few more shots
There were empty bottles on the floor, she wondered where are yours?
Her judgment is something she surrendered while you were busy playing bar tender
The only drinks she recalls being in your hands are the ones you poured for your friends
She found her friend passed out in the bed, laid down beside her because it's going dark in her head
What a night to remember, but she wishes she didn’t
Because somewhere between her arriving to this house and laying in this bed, you got the idea to ruin her eighteen year old self instead
Instead of being decent and being a friend, you made a choice that she has to remember again and again
She woke up to you weighing down on her, your rough hand covering her mouth and heavy breathing
She couldn’t move, weak from the alcohol she had consumed
And then she woke up to the sun shining through the window, she panicked because she couldn’t find her clothes
“And where are my keys, my car keys...my head hurts and I just want to leave”
She didn’t even say goodbye, she rushed out the door ignoring the sting from watered down mascara in her eyes
She came home, drown herself in the shower trying to rid her head of your breaths in her ear growing louder
Was it real? It was all too real
She can’t stop questioning herself about that night
What happened and if it was you, she was drunk and confused
But then she knew one day when she went to visit her
And unexpectedly you
She felt a fire take over and couldn’t breathe as you approached her suddenly
And during a forceful conversation you put her in a dreaded situation
“You and I had plenty of alone time the other night,” said so innocently as you rested your hand on her thigh
Then she knew, you’d never see anything wrong with what you put her through
And because her friend was a part of you too, she had to leave her when she left you
She never went back to the friendships she once pursued, but she can never truly leave
Because while you can forget what you did to her, she'll always be remembering
