Release
Release
I’ve done what I can. I gave you my life.
I’ll admit I was so young, and life with me may have felt like strife.
I loved fiercely and protected with the same intensity,
only now to hear you say you want nothing from me.
I have felt pain before, but none like this.
Yet this isn’t about me—this is about the accusations you insist.
I’m sorry I’ve let you down. I’ve only ever wanted you to be happy,
but your happiness now seems to come at the cost
of being happy without me.
I’ll love you forever through all the anger you may have,
even if it means I’m left in the dark about your life
and the dreams I once had of it.
I have to release you now, to give you what you believe you need,
and for myself—because this distance between you and me
makes it hard for me to breathe.
A mom’s love never changes, something you may never know,
but I will step back and do whatever it takes for you to grow.
I love you forever, my mini me.
