Regret That Comes Too Late

Regret That Comes Too Late

By Elton Camp

With advancing age it usually appears
That frustrating problem with one’s ears

If you stutter, nobody will call you a fool
If vision declines, folks won’t be cruel

But get where you no longer correctly hear
And many people will then mock and sneer

Though to hear, you try as hard as you can,
Others whisper, “What a stupid old man.”

When it’s family who treat you that way,
It hurts so much more than words can say

When he is six feet under the ground
Regret’s too late for he is not around

“How I wish I’d been nicer to old dad.
I know my harsh words made him sad.”
