Reflection of My Past Self

A person who doesn’t know who he is his
Still lingers in my mind as I sit by the river
He speaks of longing to be someone in society
Today he looks across the water which glistens brightly in the late sunset
Reminiscing of a time when he wore a smile with pride
Yet while I look at him, his face drained of life, I can see it in his eyes which reflected the purple clouds on the river and the late evening sun
Every feeling he’s experienced has been due to worrying for someone other than himself
Nothing more, nothing less, the boy wore his heart on his sleeve but was left to sit by himself

Strangely, the people closest to him only used him for what he could give
After he held his rage under his patience, the emotions eventually exploded
Red haze clouded his vision and he shone the trauma he endured
Gently he spoke with pain, that didn’t appear normal for the foul words which came out of his mouth and tears that rolled down his face and onto his clothes
Even as he cried, his screams were drowned by a hush whisper
Never had he spoken so loud yet so quiet, and never did he emit words at anyone
“Tomorrow,” he started, “will you help me find myself again?” he finished with cracks in his voice.
